Two Pi Team celebrates its (sort of) personal day of glory (well, almost)

Hilden, 15 March 2011: The whole world celebrated our team yesterday … well not quite we admit, but it would have been nice!  Just look at the date of 3/14 and you have 3,14 – the first digits of the number Pi. Thus, the 14th of March was (semi-)officially nominated to be the "Pi Day", in honor of that famous mathematical constant. Since we're named Two Pi Team and proudly claim the „double Pi“, we think that we have twice a reason to celebrate (if there’s pie).
According to one definition of Pi, the value of Pi is the ratio of any plane circle's circumference to its diameter. That sounds rather prosaic (well, what did you expect? It's math, after all), but there's more to it: a circle also represents the most harmonic shape in mathematics. It’s a nice thing all around, just like our company… which is another reason we’re not called a²+2ab+c² Team. As you perhaps all remember from the more or less wretched math classes at school, Pi has indefinitely decimal places (we’re still counting).
“That’s probably what fascinates people the most about Pi”, says Albrecht Beutelspacher, professor of Mathematics at the University of Gießen. “It’s like a starry sky, which is infinite. There is an addictive aspect to it.”
Yet another reason we feel connected to the number Pi: we’re having infinite fun with our diverse projects and versatile team members.
